Terramara

Terramara is (more or less) open! I don't feel bad about a shameless plug because I wrote the website. Actually, that's not completely true...I wrote most of the code; Alex did the pictures and the text was written mainly by Margaret.
Anyway, my shameless plug is the following: If you are looking for accommodation in Western Crete, you should give Terramara a look. I know from experience that the place is great (and you'll be taken care of!)

Still in Crete

Well, We're still here! Bradley, Greg and Verity arrived a couple of days ago and they have been enjoying themselves. Yesterday everyone helped to scrub the pool, remove the extra grout and wash the tiles...and then it was filled overnight, so this morning it's ready for swimming!

Crete

Well, we've been here a few days. We're well and truly settled in now. The swimming pool will be completed any day - which will be awesome, it's so hot! The dial has hit 37 this week!

Colin hired a jeep and we've been out over the island with it a couple of times, bumping (and skidding) over the rocks and rough stuff and scraping beneath olive trees. And all with the mediterranian sun beaming down and the sea visible on the horizon from the tops of the mountains. We've been to the beach and swam in the sea a couple of times.

Greg, Verity and Bradley are coming tomorrow. They're here for two weeks and we'll probably drive further into the centre of the island to retrace the route we took a few months ago to find the mountain resorts which, at that time, had snow around them. There won't be snow this time of year, but there will still be the amazing smooth, wide, windy roads that weave back through the windmills.

Phew!

Well, we made it! After the usual protracted travelling - the worst bit is always the waiting at the airports - and the long drive over, we finally arrived at some ungodly hour last night. After a long lie in to recouperate, we're now greeted with the familiar but still breathtaking vista, and a beautiful, blue sky. All my organising is nearly over too - only a couple more emails left to send to sort out my course for next year.

Off to Crete!

Well, the last few days have been incredibly hectic. What with moving all our stuff out or wrapping for the basement or taking it to crete, things have been flying in at least three different directions and we've found ourselves completely exhausted by the evening. Still, its all over now!
It's a good job we moved out in a hectic blaze because otherwise it would have been a glum occasion: this is the first place Alex and I lived together, and we were very happy here.
Still, no time for melancholy reflections. We're off very shortly! Loughborough-Gatwick-Heraklion-Kissamos. And then bed.

A Blog?

Yes, a blog. Well, I thought that it’s nice to have somewhere where I can leave my thoughts and messages, and so that friends (hi there!) and family (hi to you too!) can keep track of me if I’m off gallivanting! There might not be much here for a while. In the meantime, you could check out my flickr profile.
